Treis-Karden

Regions in the Hunsrück: Treis-Karden

The municipality of Lütz is impressive due to its beautiful half-timbered houses and a long tradition of slate mining. From the mid-19th century onwards, roof slate was mined from 11 pits and 19 galleries in this tributary valley of the Moselle. Today, visitors can glean all kinds of interesting information about slate mining on the 7 km Schiefergrubenweg (slate mining trail).

The town of Mörsdorf is situated on a high plateau. The oldest building is the town hall, which was constructed in 1645. It is also known as the Rhodes and is home to the museum of local history. The Rhodes was also used as a rendezvous point in days of yore, as the building contains a bakehouse in which bread was baked regularly. Nowadays, the baking oven is heated for local festivals using traditional methods.
